Within the Adeptus Mechanicus there exists a need for facilitators; diplomats who interact with outsiders and ensure the needs of Mars are met. One such example are the Magos Executors of the Collegia Titanica. These individuals stand apart from the rest of the Mechanicus due to the constraints of their position. Where explorators and praetorians are free to indulge in every augmentation that could feasibly enhance them, facilitators are constricted to enhancements that do not adversely affect their appearance. In a society where flesh is considered weak and augmentation a boon this can cause friction.

Janus Victrus was once such a facilitator. Gene-grown in the bowels of the Forge World Smokestack, he was raised to interact with humanity. At an early age he was taught psychology, manipulation, communication, and a whole host of other skills pertinent to the diplomacy and persuasion of unaugmented humans. This was accompanied by Mechanicus Implants required to interface with the data nets and information grids necessary to interface on a Forge World. His education was a varied as it was esoteric. One year his assignments would include calculating the trajectory of the great asteroids that impacted upon the Delivery Fields, and the next his tasking would include determining the most efficient means of notifying the next of kin of the victims of an industrial accident. He was blessed with knowledge of the Lignua Franca of the Machine Cult; Binary. But then just as quickly it was all taken away from him as the implants began to degrade. To this day they do not know if it was a genetic deformity or error on the part of the chirurgeon that resulted in his body rejecting his implants, but one by one the Mechanicus Implants that had blessed Janus started to fail. He lost his Binary voice first, a horrible fate for one born to communicate. After that his data links died, and finally his cranial enhancements. It was a miracle that he survived at all, although more than one Adeptus has indicated that they would preferr death to his fate.

Janus became a pariah. Severed from the links that bind all Mechanicus he could not serve in his original role as a facilitator. Like a child forced to play with a broken toy none of the other members of the Machine Cult showed any desire to interact with him. Imagine living in a world where you know everyone is talking behind your back but you cannot do anything about it, nor will there ever be a way to find out what they are saying. That is the world that Janus lived in until he ultimately asked to leave. His request was met with relief by the authorities, who provided him with the means and their blessing to move on.

Janus is calm, collected, and extraordinarily contemplative when it comes to performing actions. He possesses skills and charisma that enable him to seamlessly integrate with other sentients and manipulate them to meet his goals. But the loss of his implants and the world of communication and insight that they offered continues to eat away at him. He feels hollow and lost, and yearns to once again be regarded as an equal and not as a broken thing to be pitied.
